Congratulations, Mr. President

I would just like to take this time and extend my congratulations to the President for vetoing the SCHIP legislation and sending a bold message to all Americans that this government is absolutly opposed to social pork barrell politics.

Read all about how I, with my barely over 60K a year salary, could drop all my insurance through my company and sign up for SCHIP if the President had not vetod it because it's a free government hand-out. You can also read how SCHIP is already in existence and something that no one that currently benefits from it is losing it by this veto.

Is this "Compassionate Conservatism?" Just wondering.

Calm down Jim Wall....er I mean Corey.

And what's with the PC drop? WOW!!

Anyway, I think you missed the conservative part of the expression.

I don't get the fervor over this whole thing. It isn't like SCHIP wasn't already around. It isn't like the program is going to go away either. It's still alive and well and being well-funded.

Why is no one talking about the fact that Bush said he would approve a $5 billion increase over 5 years! Not a $35 billion increase over 5 years!

Or the fact that this bill is just another step toward government-run health care.

To even try and make this a moral cause is re-donk-ulous and just stupid.

Someone making $41,000 a year right now can sign up and get SCHIP.

Even after the veto!!!!

HOW IS THAT IMMORAL OR UNCOMPASSIONATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because, as Republican Senator Grassley pointed out, most family farmers in his state make $80,000 a year, but can't afford health insurance. And from what I read, the program could not be sustained by just 5 billion increase.

A few more points:

- This is a Republican program started by and supported by Republicans.

- It would be completely funded by a cigarette tax

- Keelie and I make 40,000 a year ( barely) and to afford our insurance would cost us MORE THAN OUR HOUSE PAYMENT

That's for real, yo.

I love you, boys and girls

The majority of my debt started from health expenses (try having over 30K in health expenses at 23 years old! Seriously). I agree with Corey's points. As George Carlin would say "Conservatives care only about getting you born, and care nothing about you after that...until it's time for the draft."

How much has this government spent in KILLING our soilders during Bush's reign of terror? Then he vetos something that would actually HELP?
