After hearing and listening to President Bush at the Virginia Tech convocation yesterday, I couldn't help but think/wonder how different his Presidency would have been if he hadn't surrounded himself with Wolfowitz, Cheney, Rumsfield and the like.
The guy wears his emotions on his sleeve and no matter what anyone says, his speeches have always been truthful and you know exactly what he is thinking. He doesn't B.S. you. Sure, he may be an idiot and keep to his guns about how Iraq is not a problem, but that isn't B.S.ing you with lies, it is really what he thinks. He didn't gloss you over with political speak.
It is the exact same traits that helped him in 2000 and 2004.
Most Pro-Bushites say, take 9/11 away from Bush and things would be different. You cannot do that, he had no control over 9/11 (well, I guess some, but so did Clinton, Bush Sr., and Reagan) but he did have control over he surrounded himself with to run things. And he always had the authority to make changes along the way.
For this he is cuplable and history will show it forever.
It's just unfortunate.

ummm... I guess I must be watching the wrong President. Because the guy I'm watching is, um... well, I won't call him a person that lies.
I can't believe that you would feel that way about him, Brian. Have you heard him speak? I mean, wow.
When has he lied to you?
What? Because he stutters sometimes?
Who doesn't?
Do not fall into the herd mentality and start letting them determine your thoughts and beliefs. It's way too easy to let it happen.
I don't know why I am doing this. You'll just say I'm taking his comment out of context. Then when I quote the context, you'll say I'm a pawn for the vast liberal media conspiracy. Then, when I prove I'm a Republican, you'll call Fox security on me or report me to the NSA.
But anyway here are a few lies. The one that really bothers me, I'll post on a different comment.
"One hundred and seventy-seven of the opposition party said, 'You know, we don't think we ought to be listening to the conversations of terrorists,' " Bush said at a fundraiser for Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.)
This was a slight exageration by Bush since the eact number of Dems who said that was ZERO
[n]ever [in] anybody’s thought processes . . . did we ever think that the evil doers would fly not one but four commercial aircraft into precious US targets . . . never.
Well, actually, Condi Rice knew, so did the Counter Terrorism part of NSA. Does that count as "anybody?" IN fact, Bush himself recieved an entire briefing from the CIA about eminent attacks from Al Qaeda using hijacked commercial airliners. Whoops.
"We do not torture"
Oh, this is a good one. We actually have been doing the things that we executed Japanese officers for after WW2.
About wiretapping, Bush said "previous Presidents have used the same constitutional authority I have, and federal courts have approved the use of that authority."
I looked and looked to find a prez who had done so. I only found one - Nixon.
Iraq -
Remember why we went into Iraq?
Both the Senate Intelligence Committee and the 9-11 Commission found “no credible evidence of a collaborative relationship between Iraq and Al Qaeda"
Bush said, Bush said the intelligence “leaves no doubt that Iraq continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised"
Nope. IN fact, there isn't a single NIE (National Intelliganece Estimate) that backs up that claim.
We found the weapons of mass destruction. We found biological laboratories.
The intelligence that the Prez was referring to actually said that those secret labs were NOT WMD labs. He had been briefed in person about those labs two days before he said this. I'm sure he just misheard. "Mr. Prez, these are NOT WMD labs"
Shall I go on? And, BTW, we have never allowed a US President to just pass the buck to his hirelings. The problem is his entire administration. IN the words of Harry Truman, "the buck stops here."
The prez hires people that reflect his philosophy.
Now, to the lie that really bothers me:
Bush's conversion to Christianity.
Testimony during first campaign: "Billy Graham led me to Jesus on a walk at Camp David." Great story. Billy doesn't remember it, though. Apparently it was an unmemorable experience.
Testimony during second campaign: the Evangelist Arthur Blessit led me to the Lord. Blessit even confirms this story. Blessit says he prayed with Bush to recieve Jesus, etc. However, in Bush's own book he claims that his conversion was not a one time "born again" event. Rather, it happened through reflection, etc.
So, which is it? Don't ask Billy Graham.
BTW,
you don't HAVE to be a Bush apologist. Youo can be a Republican/conservative/evangelica/sean hannity enthusiast wwithout being a bush apologist.
Well, except for the Hannity part.
